MODIFIED SCOOP AND OXIDATION SYSTEM

A method and apparatus for oxidizing the bottoms product of a flue gas desulfurization absorber tower. This bottoms product is recirculated within the tower with a portion of it being captured and delivered to a separate oxidation tank adjacent the tower. The liquid level within this separate oxidation tank is at a higher elevation than the level of the bottoms product in the recirculation tank of the absorber tower. Consequently, after oxidation in the oxidation tank, this bottoms product is returned to the recirculation tank such as through a weir or the like.
