PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic head for which perpendicular walls to regulate a magnetic gap are used by forming auxiliary supports at the ends of the perpendicular walls before the formation of magnetic poles. CONSTITUTION: A substrate 61 includes an aluminum oxide/titanium carbide substrate having an alumina separating layer and laminated release layers. A photoresist layer 63 is patterned and is cured. Partial layers 63 having the perpendicular edges 77 spreading across the centers of pits 70 and grooves 72 are then formed and the thin layers of a nonmagnetic material are adhered on the partial layers 63 and other exposed surfaces. The nonmagnetic materials exclusive of the edges 77 are removed and the perpendicular gap walls 60 extending across the pits 70 and the grooves 72 are formed. Next, the photoresist layers 63, 67 are patterned and plating frames 69 are formed in lower yoke sections 42, 45 including magnetic pole pieces 46, 48 and magnetic pole ends 50, 52. Both ends of the perpendicular walls are supported by the layers 63, 67. The alumina layer is thereafter adhered onto the head structure and a transducer is obtd. |
