The invention relates to a process and a device for modifying the distribution pattern of a broadcaster for grain material to allow spreading of the material on the edge of the field (B), this machine comprising a hopper (5) for receiving the material and at least one spreader disc (1) with ejector blades (2, 2'), so that the material flows from the hopper (5) in the form of a stream in order to fall onto the spreader disc (1). The process consists in intercepting and diverting a part (F2) of this stream, which part corresponds to a spreading towards the edge zone (B), in order to direct it towards the rest of the stream (F1).
