摘要 The prodn. of H2 and CO comprises: (a) contacting, in a first reaction zone, a low mol. wt. hydrocarbon comprising methane, oxygen and steam at high temp. in a net reducing atmos. with a fluidised bed of catalyst or catalyst and solids diluent to convert 85-95 % hydrocarbons to H2 and CO and form a reaction mixt. of H2, CO, unreacted hydrocarbon, oxygen and steam; (b) withdrawing the reaction mixt. as an effluent; and (c) contacting the effluent, in a second reaction zone, with a fixed bed of catalytic metal solids with a void fraction of at least 0.9 to convert sufficient of the unreacted hydrocarbons, oxygen and steam and increase the hydrocarbon conversion to 0.5-5 % above that obtd. in the first reaction zone. The hydrocarbon conversion of the second stage is 1-3 % above that of the first zone. The conversion of the first zone is 87-90 %. (a) is carried out at 1500-1900, pref. 1600-1800, [deg]F over a Ni/alumina catalyst. The residence time of the effluent in the second zone is less than 1 second pref. 0.6 second partic. 0.3-0.6 seconds. The void fraction is 0.9-0.98. The catalyst of the second stage is Ni, pref. Ni-coated pall rings or Ni on a honeycomb monolith.
