PURPOSE:To sufficiently cancel shadow caused by a nonlinear element part or an electrode and to provide high contrast. CONSTITUTION:This device is provided with an image display 4 for which a lot of dot-shaped picture elements are two-dimensionally arranged, and a phase grating 5 arranged at the display optical path of this image display 4 and equipped with a grating pattern in one direction (or two directions) within the range where the intensity of + or - second-order diffracted light (or (+ or -2, 0)-th order diffracted light and (0, + or -2)-th order diffracted light) is 5-50% in comparison with the intensity of 0-order diffracted light at the central wavelength of the image display 4. |
