An adjustable protective lining for a blast furnace comprises a plurality of individual plates 1, (1a forming a jacket, each plate being suspended by articulate rods 2 from the upper shell 9 and by articulated levers 3 from circumferential rings 4. The latter engage vertical guides 8, are spaced apart by rods 5 and moved vertically by fluid or mechanically operated mechanism 7 and rods 6 extending through stuffing bores 10 in the shell 9. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the levers (2) are suspended from a vertically movable ring, the levers (3) being articulated to brackets on the wall (9). Another modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), has the levers (3) divided into articulated halves which engage only the outer plates (1) and are adjustably suspended from their middle joints. The inner plates are guided by and move with the outer plates. A final modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), reverts to the Fig. 1 arrangement with the levers (3) connected only to the outer plates (1). |
