PURPOSE:To provide a compact luminous type name plate capable of spontaneously emitting light even at the time of sunset so that characters on a name plate can be viewed. CONSTITUTION:The spontaneously luminousname plate 1 is provided with a surface plate 2 forming characters for the name plate on its surface and capable of transmitting light, a plane emitter 3 for emitting light when prescribed voltage is impressed and a drive control circuit 5 for impressing the prescribed voltage to the emitter 3. The circuit 5 includes an accumulator utilizing voltage outputted from a solar battery 6 as its charging voltage, and when a detection signal is outputted from a sunset sensor 8, converts the voltage of the accumulator into the prescribed voltage and impresses the voltage to the emitter 3 to emit the emitter 3, so that the name plate characters of the name plate 2 can be viewed even at night.
