Materials including cardboard and cardboard prods., wood, wood prods., cotton prods., paper and paper prods., are rendered flameproof by (a) immersing the material to be treated in a hot aq. soln. of ammonium chloride contg. at least 5% NH4Cl, at a temp. of at least 80 deg.C and pref. under press. to ensure the highest possible absorption of the liq., and (b) drying the impregnated material in a drying chamber.
