A cooker plate assembly comprises a hot plate (5) preferably of glass ceramic material, an electrical heating coil element (7) arranged underneath the hot plate with its terminations 9, 10 at the periphery of the plate 5 and a thermostat temperature sensor (3) thermally coupled to the hot plate (5) at an edge region of the plate which is not directly heated by the element 7. A rod shaped detector 14 of temperature limiter 12 extends across the hot plate and is spaced from the turns of the bifilar spiral element 17.
