CAPACITY DECIDING DEVICE IN EXHAUST EMISSION CONTROL DEVICE FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

PURPOSE:To decide the adsorbing capacity of an unburnt component adsorption means easily and securely so as to prevent the exhausting of the unburnt component to the atmosphere, in an exhaust emission control device for internal combustion engine in which the unburnt component adsorption means to adsorb the unburnt component in the exhaust gas temporarily is provided to the exhaust system of an internal combustion engine. CONSTITUTION:It is decided that an unburnt component adsorption means 8 is in the condition of adsorbing process to adsorb the unburnt component, or of the removing process to remove the unburnt component by an unburnt component adsorbing condition detecting means 14. Under such a condition, the adsorbing capacity of the unburnt component adsorption means 8 is decided by a deciding means 15 depending on the detected values of an upstream side air-fuel ratio detecting means 12 to detect the air-ful ratio at the upstream side, and a downstream side air-fuel ratio detecting means 13 to detect the air-fuel ratio on the downstream side.
