PURPOSE:To restrict irregularities of images resulting from a temperature rise caused when a printing element is driven in a printing apparatus using a plurality of heat-generating elements as the printing element and miniaturize the printing apparatus. CONSTITUTION:A CCD element (Cal-Can, Cbl-Cbn) is provided correspondingly to each printing element 19 so as to accumulate and sequentially transfer an electric charge of an amount corresponding to temperatures. A driving device for driving a printing head is one provided with an analog shift register in which a row of CCD elements is set to transfer data, align and drive corresponding printing elements, and moreover, the driving device shares the CCD elements as the CCD elements (Cal-Can, Cbl-Cbn) for accumulating and transferring temperature data.
