The cardboard carrier bag is elastically deformable. The bag's opposite open upper sides (4) have two folding lines (b,c) which are spaced by a height equal to half the length (b) of each of the sides. These two superposed lines extend onto the two other opposite sides (3). Two slanting folding lines (d) meet at the middle of the upper horizontal line (b) to define an isosceles triangle (6), and a folding line (e) joins the top of the triangle to the upper free edge of the side (4). An initial pressure applied simultaneously on each of the two triangles in opposite directions is followed by a vertical push, causing, by contraction at the top of the triangles, the automatic closing of the upper open part. This remains elastically held closed until a pull is exerted in the opposite direction.
