Process for profiling sheet metal parts of open curved cross section by the application of fluid pressure in a forming mould, whereby the part (1) is placed on a forming block (3) having a raised chequer-like structure to be impressed on the part (1) within a pressure chamber sealed by a sealing plate (18) with an elastic gasket (19) which is pressed against the part from the reverse side. Fluid pressure admitted to the pressure chamber (8) after sealing presses the part (1) against the forming block (3) and impresses the profile structure, with length compensation aided by the provision of a slip layer. Several variants of process equipment are also claimed.
