A buckle comprises a movable frame 7, the side bars 15, 16 of which have inwardly folded edge portions forming guides for side bars of a stationary frame 1 allowing a displacement of the movable frame with respect to the stationary frame in the direction of the side bars, the movable frame having an end cross bar 13 and an intermediately positioned cross bar 8 with an upstanding engaging lip 11, the stationary frame having an upstanding end cross bar 2 provided with an engaging surface facing said engaging lip 11 and adapted therewith to clamp a strap or belt portion therebetween and a second end cross bar 3 providing means for attaching another strap or belt portion to the stationary frame. In the construction shown in Fig. 2 the movable frame is also provided with a second end cross bar 14 under which the strap or belt end portion gripped between the two frames can pass and the means for attaching the other strap or belt portion in an end portion 4 extending from the cross bar 3 and which has a dimple 6 for engagement with a corresponding member on the other belt or strapportion. In a modification instead of the stationary frame having a dimple 6 it is provided with a said end portion 4 the edges of which are bent round to give the end portion a C-shaped cross-section within which the strap or belt portion can be received be held in place by bending the edges. In a further modification the end portion 4 is provided with an aperture for receiving a hook member to which the strap or belt end portion is connected. In a further modification the end cross bar 14 of the movable frame is omitted and the stationary frame is provided with an end portion having an aperture through which the strap or belt end portion, gripped between the stationary frame and the movable frame, can be passed and in addition the end portion is provided with two downwardly bent toothed claws, one on each edge adjacent the side bars of the frame, for connection to the strap or belt end portion by bending the claws around the strap or belt end portion. |
