PURPOSE: To avoid a risk of sticking a needle into a hand of an operator by forming a blunt tip in a shape such as to have a cross section having a peripheral length which is longer than that of the distal end of the front end part in regard to a sharp tip part adjacent to the distal end of the front end part. CONSTITUTION: A surgical needle 10 having a blunt end, a suture attaching part 112, a continuous body part 14 having a cross-sectional area which is uniform in its entirety, and a continuous tip end part 16. The suture attaching part 12 is straight and has a slot 16 which extends from the proximal end of the needle along its axis. It has a uniform cross-sectional area through the body part 14 and the continuous tip end part 16 and terminates in a bulb-like blunt tip 24. The widest part of this blunt tip 24 has a peripheral length which is longer than that of the cross-section of the distal end of the tip part 16. With this arrangement, the needle 10 is prevented from penetrating into the skin of a hand of an operator, which wears thereon a glove. |
