PURPOSE: To provide a substrate for a rigid information disk used in a magnetic storage device consisting of a head pad and rigid information disk combined small friction and small smoothness. CONSTITUTION: The substrate 1 is provided with a circular hole 5 at the center. At least one surface of the substrate 1 is provided with a first circular zone 4 encircling the hole 5 and a second circular zone 2 encircling the first circular zone 4. A rougher area having low friction than the smooth surface area of the second circular zone 2 is formed on the surface of the first circular zone 4, and the landing area of the head pad is formed in the low friction area. The storage zone is formed in the second circular zone 2.
