PURPOSE:To provide a head lamp for an automobile, capable of forming various kinds of light distribution in the simple structure by alternatively selecting a form that a light distribution controlling optical member faces to the optical axis of an optical path of a parallel light forming means and a form that the member is parallel to the optical axis. CONSTITUTION:A mirror 32 is such formed that the back surface thereof is smooth and cylindrical steps 32a as diffusion steps for diffusing light outward in the vehicle width direction are formed in front thereof. Parallel light L1 emitted from a light projecting unit is reflected on the back surface of the mirror in a position where the mirror 32 is inclined with respect to the optical axis, to be reflected on the mirror 32 adjacent outward in the vehicle width direction and introduced forward. Light reflected on the smooth reflecting surface at the back surface of the mirror 32 is reflected and diffused outward in the vehicle width direction by the cylindrical steps 32a at the surface of the adjacent mirror, as shown by L2. Meanwhile, the parallel light is introduced forward from an opening between the mirrors 32 in a position where the mirror 32 is parallel to the optical axis L, thus preventing diffusion. |
