PURPOSE: To attain wavelength division and multiplication(WDM) by incorporating a specific core and a clad in an optical fiber, and specifying the absolute scale of mean color distribution. CONSTITUTION: A core and a clad having attenuation smaller than 0.25dB/Km in 1550nm, interruption wavelength smaller than 1.4μm, and distributed slop smaller than 0.15ps/(nm<2> -Km) are included in an optical fiber, and the absolute scale of the mean color distribution in 1550nm for at least 2.2Km fiber length of is set within a range from 1.5 to 4ps/nm-Km. A curve 10 is made correspond to 1μm channel separation (about 250GHz), a curve 11 is made correspond to a 1.5μm interval (about 200GHz), and a curve 12 is made correspond to 2μm interval (about 125GHz) in relation between a system capacity and color distribution limited by 4PM for a 4 channel and 360Km span WDM system using this fiber. |
