<p>Certain transformer cores are manufactured by wrapping about an arbor packets of amorphous metal strip, each packet comprising a plurality of groups of strip, and each group comprising many thin layers of strip. This method of making such packets comprises: (a) providing composite strip comprising many thin layers of amorphous metal strip stacked in superposed relationship, (b) cutting said composite strip a first time to form a first multi-layer section of predetermined length, (c) cutting said composite strip a second time to form a second multi-layer section of predetermined length, (d) substantially aligning the first and second multi-layer sections to form from these sections one of said groups, and (e) carrying out the above cutting steps with blades capable of cutting only a predetermined maximum number of the above layers without causing the life of the blades to sharply drop, this maximum number being less than the number of layers in each group but greater than the number of layers cut in each of steps (b) and (c). <IMAGE></p> |
