The arrangement consists of a transmitter unit (10) and a receiver unit (1) which functions as a semi-passive transponder, taking its power from the transmitted signal. The receiver unit, installed in the wanted vehicle, sends back identification data whole or in parts to the transmitter unit, which is placed in the general area of the vehicle. The transmitter unit may be stationary or attached to another mobile vehicle. The transmitter unit can compare any part of the identification data that are sent back to it with the respective part for wanted vehicles. When part of the identification data of a wanted vehicle is received, further parts of the data can be received and checked. When all identification data for a wanted vehicle have been recognised, an alarm signal can be sent out.
