PURPOSE:To provide the apparatus capable of readily culturing a bacterium and accurately measuring the growth without being contaminated with various germs by sealing a culture solution containing the bacterium to be cultured in a light transmitting sample cell, shaking the sample cell at a constant temperature and measuring the turbidity from the quantity of light transmitted through the culture solution at an interval of the set time. CONSTITUTION:This apparatus for automating bacterial culture is provided by sealing a culture solution 6 containing a bacterium to be cultured in a light transmitting sample cell 1 for a spectrophotometer, shaking the sample cell with a driving part 7 while keeping the cell within the range of culture temperature, stopping the shaking of the culture solution at an interval of the set time, measuring the turbidity with the spectrophotometer, stopping the light irradiation when the measurement is completed and reshaking the culture solution. The wavelength of the light irradiated from a light source part 8 is set at a wavelength hardly absorbing the light in the culture solution.
