PURPOSE: To rapidly and accurately determine the inclination angle of a rope by comparing the force measured at a trolley support point, with the inclination angle of a cable in a method for determining the inclination angle of the rope of a lifting device. CONSTITUTION: A gantry crane 1 used to lift and move loads M placed on the ground S has a pair of linear guides 20 parallel with each other on one crossing device 3 extending between four posts 2, and a trolley 23 provided with four bearings 25 is placed to be travelable on the guides 20. Each bearing 25 is provided with a sensor (a load meter) 35 for detecting the force acting on the bearing 25. An output signal of the load meter 35 is inputted together with an output signal of a position sensor 42 to this anti-swing device 40, and the measured force is inserted in established correlative relation to determine the inclination angleβof a cable to a vertical direction V to control the operation of the crane 1.
