PURPOSE:To attain merchandise selection which is interactive and user friendly by confirming the contents of merchandise in detail and multilaterally evaluating it while comparing plural pictures. CONSTITUTION:In a head end 100, picture reducing parts 111 to 115 reduce catalog pictures from disk devices 101 to 105 into multi-pictures and multiplexers 121 to 125 add each reduced picture with header information to which a frame number, etc., is coordinated. The picture signals of these are transmitted to a subscriber's terminal equipment. From the head end 100, a merchandise introducing picture corresponding to each picture of the multi-picture is transmitted, too. The subscriber's terminal equipment furthermore reduces the multi-picture to secure an area for displaying a selected picture so that the reduced picture selected by a user is displayed here. Furthermore, a reduced picture is specified so as to take out a detailed content introduction picture corresponding to the reduced picture and to display it.
