PURPOSE:To make it possible to reproduce a faithful original without depending upon the reproducing capacity of a printer by converting a picture signal into a density signal based upon its size. CONSTITUTION:In a color scanner part, a luminance signal for an original picture is obtained by a CCD 51 and compensated by a shading compensating circuit 53. The compensated luminance signal is converted into a density signal by a LOG conversion circuit 54. When a reading signal is larger than a signal corresponding to maximum density to be reproduced by a printer part, the circuit 54 converts the reading signal into a density signal whose recording density difference can be judged by the printer part in accordance with the density area judgement of a density/color reproducing judging part 60 without converting the reading signal into a density signal proportional to the density of the original. When the reading signal is less than the signal corresponding to the maximum density to be reproduced by the printer part, the reading signal is converted into the density signal proportional to the density of the original. |
