PURPOSE: To provide a method to increase conductivity, particularly thermal conductivity, of a graphite carbon fiber spun from an intermediate phase pitch. CONSTITUTION: The thermal conductivity and electric conductivity of a graphite carbon fiber spun from an intermediate phase pitch are improved by annealing the carbon for 15-120 minutes at 1,400-1,800 deg.C. The graphite carbon fiber has a thermal conductivity of at least 590 W/mK and a tensile strength of at least 465×10<3> lb/in<2> .
