PURPOSE: To provide an improved method for updating data and parity information in an RADI level 4 and 5 display array. CONSTITUTION: In the period of a read/modify/write(RMW) operation, old data and parity information to be updated is read from a disk, a new parity is generated, a disk for housing the data and parity to be updated is identified, a proper reading and writing request for obtaining data drive and parity drive is placed in an I/O queue, and the schedule of the parity operation is established. That is, the execution of the writing of the new parity information is operated in the best period for obtaining the writing drive during queue waiting. Therefore, the data reading and writing operation is separated from the parity reading, generating, and writing operation so that the using efficiency of the drive in the array can be improved. |
