A shield device or assembly for a bridge-mounted highway sign has upper and side panels forming a frame surrounding and projecting outwardly from the upper and side edges of the sign, so as to shield the front face of the sign from view from the bridge. The panels are secured to the sign by upper and side mounting devices, which may be arranged so that the panels flare outwardly at angles greater than 90 DEG to the front face of the sign. Corner pieces fill in the corners between the panels at the upper corners of the sign.
