1383328 Vulcanizing rubber DUNLOP Ltd 23 March 1972 [16 April 1971] 9675/71 Heading C3E A vulcanizable rubber composition comprises an unsaturated rubbery polymer together with vulcanizing ingredients including sulphur, an accelerator, an activator and a phosphorus compound of the general formula where X 1 , X 2 and X 3 represent the same or different groups selected from R, RO, NH 4 O and MO, or where X 1 is H and X 2 and X 3 represent the same or different RO, where R is an organic group and M is an alkali metal. For instance the phosphorus compound may be a phosphate, phosphonate or tris-organo phosphine oxide; a compound such as a bis-phosphite having a tautomeric form of the above formula; or a compound of said formula may be produced in situ by, e.g. oxidation of a compound such as a tris-phosphite. Examples are given in which the compositions vulcanized comprise (a) EPT rubber and (i) tris-2,3-dibromopropyl phosphate, (ii) tris-2,3-dichloropropyl phosphate, (iii) tris- 2-chloroethyl phosphate, (iv) complex 2-chloroethylphosphonates, (v) O,O-diethyl-N,N-bis-(2- hydroxyethyl) aminoethyl phosphonate, (vi) di-polyoxypropylene phosphonate, (vii) tris- (nonylphenyl) phosphite, (viii) tris-2-chloroethyl phosphite or (ix) tris-2-chloroethyl phosphate; (b) SBR rubber and compound (v), or (x) diethyl ethyl phosphonate, (xi) dimethyl methyl phosphonate, (xii) bis-(2-chloroethyl)-2-chloroethyl phosphonates, (xiii) diethyl phosphite, (xiv) diethyl benzoyl phosphonate, (xv) triphenyl phosphine oxide, (xvi) tri-ammonium orthophosphate, or compounds (iv); (c) natural rubber, polybutadiene or butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber and compound (v) or (d) natural rubber in latex form and compound (v), (xvi) or tri-sodium orthophosphate. |
