A method of making a mold is disclosed in which the internal heating channels associated with the mold are used to establish a conductive thermal gradient. A coating is sprayed onto the mold which is heated internally so that the volatiles in the coating are driven off from within the coating to the free surface thereof, whereby a void free coating is formed on the mold. The mold structure, methods of molding and articles made thereby are also disclosed. <IMAGE>
