A new alkylation process, in which a charge, comprising at least one iso-paraffin and at least one olefin (2-6C), is treated in the presence of a solid alkylation catalyst, comprises: (a) the introduction and contacting with the catalyst in a reaction zone R of the following: (i) the charge mixt.; (ii) part of the effluent liq. (described in (b)); and (iii) part of the effluent liq. (described in (d)); (b) recycling of part of the liq. effluent from R to the entry zone of R; (c) introduction of another fraction of the effluent leaving R to a sepn. zone, S, which separates (e.g.) iso-butane/n-butane/alkylate prod.; (d) recycling of the major part of liq. effluent, rich in isobutane, to the reaction zone R; (e) prodn. of the alkylate (desired prod.) from the lower part of S; and (f) prodn. of n-butane by way of purge from S. The catalyst is chosen from H2SO4 impregnated onto a mineral or organic porous support or a mixt. contg. a halide of Al or B, and a quat. ammonium halide or amine halohydrate, supported on a porous mineral or organic support. |
