A tether has first and second ends with the first end being secured to the module cover and the second end forming a loop. A retainer rod extends through the loop, and a channel encloses the retainer rod and loop in a fixed position in the motor vehicle to anchor the tether during displacement of the module cover. A reaction canister houses an airbag and an airbag inflator and a module cover displaceable by the airbag upon inflation.
