A dispensing machine (10) for dispensing items (20) of hot food, comprises a freezer compartment (12) for storing the items (20) to be dispensed, a heating compartment (14), a dispensing location (16) and a transport mechanism for conveying items from the freezer compartment (12), via the heating compartment (14), to the dispensing location (16), the transport mechanism comprising a flexible transport web (22) to which the items (20) to be dispensed are secured and driving means (18) for advancing the web (22) from the freezer compartment (12) to the dispensing location (16). The heating compartment (14) is located outside and preferably above the freezer compartment (12), and the web (22) of the transport mechanism is arranged to pass out of the freezer compartment (12) through an opening (12e) in the top of the freezer compartment (12), to avoid warm air entering the freezer compartment by convection.
