PURPOSE:To evaluate influences of the self absorption while taking the dependency of sensitivity of a recording layer of a recording material on energy into consideration, and to determine the desirable thickness of a sample, by evaluating the self absorption with the change of the energy composition in a process in which beta particles reach the surface of the recording layer through the surface of a sample, taken into consideration. CONSTITUTION:The influences of the self absorption in a sample for autoradiography are evaluated based on the energy of beta particles when the beta particles discharged from a beta ray source in the sample reach the surface of the sample, the energy of beta particles when the beta particles reach the surface of a recording layer of a recording material, the relative sensitivity of the recording layer to the beta particles reaching the surface of the recording layer and the energy distribution of the beta particles discharged from the ray source. A desired thickness is thus determined for the sample.
