PURPOSE:To provide method of operating a catalyst combustor for a gas turbine that is capable of igniting a fuel which has methane gas as its main component economically and easily by using methanol as the fuel for ignition. CONSTITUTION:The air that is regulated in its flow rate by an air flow rate regulating valve 9 is led to a primary combustor, and there the air is mixed with methanol which is regulated in its flow rate by a methanol supply control valve 7, and the mixed gas passed through a combustion catalyst 5. The methanol burns substantially completely on this catalyst, and by its combustion heat the gas temperature rises to a predetermined temperature. A main fuel is added to the gas through a fuel supply control valve 8 and air is also added through an air flow rate regulating valve 10 to be led to a secondary combustor 4. A combustion catalyst 6 is filled in this secondary combustor 4 and the main fuel burns on this catalyst.
