On a lifting platform 6 of a transfer device 1 for a warehouse two telescopic arms 7 are arranged which can be moved sideways towards and away from each other by an amount dx. The palettes 4 can thus be slid on support rails 12 of the shelf 3 into a first or as far as a second row of shelves, which means that the arms 7 do not have to support the full weight of the palettes.
