The invention relates to a process for preparing a sol for the production of a ceramic containing the metals lead, zirconium and titanium (PZT ceramic) or a ceramic containing the metals lead, magnesium, niobium and titanium (PMNT ceramic), in which a) a solution containing the metal alkoxides (alcoholates) with the exception of lead alkoxides is prepared using an anhydrous organic solvent, b) the alkoxides are stabilized by addition of acetylacetone (AcAc), c) a lead salt containing water of crystallisation is added to the solution, d) the concentration ratios of the alkoxides and the lead salt in the solution being selected in such a way that a PZT ceramic having the composition [Pb(ZrxTiy)]O3, where x is in the range from 0.3 to 0.6, or a PMNT ceramic having the composition Pb[Mg1/3Nb2/3]xTiyO3, where x is in the range between 0.6 and 1, where y is in each case 1-x, is produced from the sol. It is the object of the invention to provide a simplified process for preparing a sol for producing a PMT and a PMNT ceramic.
