PURPOSE: To display a travel distance calculation result, and make its value increasable and decreasable by multiplying the residual fuel quantity by the value of the average travel distance per unit fuel consumption of an automobile to determine intermediate traverable distance. CONSTITUTION: A fuel level sensor signal 20 generated from a level detecting sub-system provided on a fuel tank, a vehicle speed signal 22 from a vehicle speed sensor connected to the transmission or wheel of a driving system and a fuel flow rate signal 24 carried from the fuel tank to an engine are digitally converted in the input and output part 32 of a microcontrol device 30 and inputted. The residual fuel quantity is multiplied by the value of the average travel distance per unit fuel consumption of the automobile to determine intermediate traverable distance, and an indicator 50 is controlled by a display driver 40 to display it. In a first operation mode, the display value of the displayed traverable distance can be only reduced, but in a second operation mode, the display value of the traverable distance in operation can be increased and decreased.
