The device has a carrier (11) held on a folding machine, a blade suspension and a positive guide for presetting the path of movement of the folding blade (12). The positive guide consists of a guide strip (42) which is held on the carrier (11) and which is guided between rollers (38) mounted on the folding blade (12). To simplify the construction and to reduce the masses to be moved, the blade suspension has only a single angle lever (15) which is articulated (19) at its elbow on the carrier (11), with its one arm (122) engages by means of a sliding block (54) into a slotted guide (154) on the folding blade (12) and with its other arm (22) is connected via a joint (53) to a drive (13, 14) for to-and-fro pivoting.
