A method of sorting ore containing sylvite and halite comprising individually irradiating ore particles with X-ray radiation, detecting the color of the particle thus exposed, and sorting said particles according to the color detected. The invention also relates to a method of sorting sylvite from halite comprising detecting the radioactivity of individual particles and sorting the particles according to whether radioactivity is detected.
