An inflator has a cylindrical casing 1 in which propellant 6 is filled. A plurality of gas outlet holes 2 are disposed on the peripheral surface of the casing. A film 10 is adhered to seal the gas outlet holes. When the gas pressure is raised by the gas evolution of the propellant 6, the film 10 is broken to blowout gas through the gas outlet holes 2. The film is a synthetic resin film of which the tensile strength is increased as the temperature of the film becomes lower. The film may be polyethylene terephthalate, nylon, polypropylene or urethane. <IMAGE>
