A note taking system (10) that integrates word-processing and computerized drawing for processing ink strokes employs a method for modeless operation of the note taking system (10) that automatically switches between word-processing and drawing; a method for processing ink strokes as drawings; a method for processing ink strokes as writing; methods for parsing the ink strokes into words, lines and paragraphs; methods for manipulating figures, including division between line and shape type figures; and a method for rotation and resizing via a special manipulation handle.
