PURPOSE:To perform automatic switching of an operation mode when an operation mode decision error is detected by a method wherein an operation mode is decided by taking the thermal influence of an indoor heat-exchanger n an indoor temperature detector into consideration. CONSTITUTION:When automatic operation is started, circulation operation is performed and an operation mode and a set temperature Ts are decided based on a detected indoor temperature TR. A compressor is then started by turning ON a compressor drive thermo switch, measurement of a lapse time (t) from starting is started, and an indoor temperature TR at starting is stored as an indoor temperature TRm at starting. When dehumidifying operation is selected, when the difference between the TRm and a present indoor temperature TRn exceeds a given value DELTAT before the lapse of a given time t1 from starting, it is decided that dehumidifying operation is improper, an operation mode is varied into heating operation, a cooling heating switching device is switched, and a room temperature is controlled through heating operation. Meanwhile, when the state in which a temperature difference is below the DELTAT is continued until the given time t1 elapses, the temperature gradient of the TR is within a given range, and dehumidifying operation decided as a proper mode is continued.
