Antibiotic resistance in Mycobacteria is detected by detecting a mutation in the katG, rpoB or rpsL or fragments. Also claimed are: (1) a kit for detecting M. tuberculosis resistant to isoniazid comprising: (a) a container contg. a probe, pref. labelled with a radioactive, enzymatic, fluorescent or luminescent label, comprising a 2.5 kb EcoRV-Kpnl fragment of plasmid pYZ56 or fragment, contg. a BamHI site, and (b) a container contg. a control prepn. of nucleic acid; (2) a probe for detecting M. tuberculosis resistant to isoniazid comprising (a); (3) a hybrid duplex molecule comprising (2) hydrogen bonded to a complementary sequence; (4) a 350 base nucleotide sequence or a portion of this (given in the specification); and (5) kits for in vitro detection of resistance of mycobacteria to isoniazid, rifampicin or streptomycin. |
