A shaded code comprising one or more units divided into a number of regions. Each of the regions is either completely shaded or remains blank. The combinations of shaded regions are used to represent a particular character in the shaded code. The shaded code having been printed or manually written onto an information sheet maybe be accurately read without making the regions excessively large and even in the presence of an overflow of printing.
