The method and the device for on-line processing of paper sheets, in particular for the production of brochures having several pages, operates with a collating device (1) in which the individual paper sheets are collated to form an imbricated stream. This imbricated stream runs into a collecting station (4) in which only the collection of one set takes place. When this collection has been completed, the set is fed to further processing to be folded and/or stapled. Hence, the collecting station (4) is only used for the collection. The residence time and thus the waiting time is very short. The further processing station (5) undertakes the other further processing operations, such as stapling and/or folding, according to the type of the end product. As a whole, the processing time is considerably increased by means of the interposition of the collecting station (4). <IMAGE>
