The invention relates to a foot rest which is supported on the front wall, at the end of the leg room, of a motor vehicle and whose supporting plate can be adjusted in inclination relative to the front wall by means of a hydraulically actuated adjusting device. An increase in comfort and reliable foot support in the event of an accident are achieved if the adjusting device comprises two bellows which with the interconnection of directional valves can optionally be connected to a hydraulic source or to a return line. Apart from being actuable by a manually actuable control device the directional valves can also be actuated via a computer-controlled device which releases a discharge cross-section which is dependent on various influencing variables if a delay sensor has reached a predetermined value.
