<p>PURPOSE:To reduce the deterioration of an interpolated image by enabling satisfactory interpolation to be performed even when a picture element block to be interpolated is large. CONSTITUTION:A feasibility decision means which decides the feasibility of reproduction of the picture element block consisting of (mXn) picture element matrices (m,n: integer >=2) is provided, and when the picture element block (for example, the block consisting of Bi, J and B'i, J) decided as the one for which reproduction is disabled by the feasibility means is interpolated, the picture element block to be interpolated is divided into a part with high correlation with the same screen and a part with high correlation with another screen, and after that, interpolation on the part with high correlation with the same screen in the picture element block is performed by using the picture element information of the same screen, and that on the part with high correlation with the another screen by using the picture element information of another screen, thereby, inconvenience to interpolate the whole block by data with low correlation can be prevented from occurring, which reduces the deterioration of the interpolated image.</p> |
