Aircraft of modular construction

An aircraft consisting of a load-bearing structure (11) and a cargo bay extension (12, 13) which can be coupled thereto is proposed for changing transport requirements. The load-bearing structure (11) of the aircraft consists of the pilot's cockpit, the undercarriage, the wings (mainplanes) with the propulsion drive and elevator, and at least one tail (14) having a vertical fin and rudder assembly and elevator. The cargo bay extension is coupled to a connection region of the load-bearing structure provided for this purpose and represents an enclosed housing (51) which continues the load-bearing structure in a suitable aerodynamic manner. For ground movements, this cargo bay extension has an undercarriage which can be retracted independently of the load-bearing structure and has at least three wheels (54), at least one (55) of which is steerable. <IMAGE>
