PURPOSE:To raise residual ink amount detection accuracy without complicating a construction of an ink jet printer. CONSTITUTION:An ink cartridge 4 consists of an ink impregnating chamber 41 and an ink liquid chamber 42. In the ink liquid chamber 42, an electrode 44 and a hollow needle electrode 21 are provided. A residual ink amount is detected on the basis of a change in electrical connection depending on the presence or absence of ink between these two electrodes. |
