The present invention relates to a device and to a method for monitoring the balance of fluids during an extracorporeal blood treatment session, according to which treatment a certain quantity of liquid is withdrawn from the blood, which quantity of liquid is compensated for by injecting a replacement liquid into the extracorporeal circuit. According to the invention, a blood recirculation circuit is created, within which the change in pressure is monitored. A drift in pressure within the recirculation circuit implies a drift in balance between the quantity of liquid withdrawn from the blood and the quantity of liquid injected into the blood. The present invention finds application, in particular, in haemofiltration, haemodiafiltration and plasmapheresis. <IMAGE>
